Autumn Bounty

Featured in The Quilter Magazine this year. Jane has an antique quilt that hangs on her wall during the summer months. She loved the pattern so much that she wanted to make a modern version in fall fabrics. She loves the fall leaves, and even the fabrics that look solid in this quilt are tonal leaf prints. The Sentimental Studios' line of fabrics from Moda that are used in this quilt are rich and vibrant. The kit includes the pattern and fabrics for the top and binding.

Bedtime Nursery Rhymes

Jane had the nursery rhymes from an antique book printed on fabric and designed a charming quilt that would delight both young and young at heart.  Each print includes the rhyme along with the artwork.  The kit includes the 12 Giclee prints on fabric, the pattern, and the fabric for the quilt top, border and binding.  If you would like to design your own project, the prints are available in 3 different sets of 4 prints each.

Giclee (zhee-CLAY) printing is a recently developed printing process that utilizes high resolution digital scanning and new, sophisticated inkjet technology to reproduce detailed, accurate images and artwork.  The inks used are archival quality, resulting in colors that are brighter and longer lasting than prints made by traditional printing methods.

Blue and White Antique Designs

Jane has a treasure in the antique blue and white quilts that were handed down to her from her mother and aunts. These quilts have very special stories. To help people begin their own tradition of handing quilts down through the generations, Jane made new quilts following the design of some of those old, special quilts. These kits have been popular so some fabrics have run out. We will make substitutions that we feel still fit the look of the original quilts, but your fabric may not be the exact fabrics pictured here.

Jane wrote about these special quilts for The Quilter Magazine's March 2010 issue. They are also now available in a beautiful Red and White version.

Bold Over Batiks

Jane discovered her first quilts from Bold Over Batiks while in Alaska, and realized that they had a special story. Shortly after her fist contact with Mary, the owner of Bold Over Batiks, Mary left for Malaysia to work with the batik artists and was gone for several months. Her business is a success because she is knowledgeable about her craft, she is organized and dedicated, and really is committed to the women who she represents.

Here is what Mary shared with us...

For several years, customers kept asking Bold Over Batiks! to make batik moose. Finally, they did it! The moose were first drawn by an artist in Alaska. That drawing was then sent to Malaysia, where a stamp maker translated the drawing to metel to make a set of stamps. These metal stamps are now used by the Malaysian artists to produce these whimsical and colorful moose on fabric as batiks. They are 100% cotton and washable.

Malaysian artists make these batiks exclusively for Bold Over Batiks! Each batik -- even the moose -- is painted one at a time. Nothing is produced on bolts by machines.

Batiks are always a lot of work, and Bold Over Batiks! fabrics are extraordinary, beyond most batiks. Plus, you can rest assured, when you buy Bold Over Batiks - you are helping to keep an art alive and ensuring that these talented artists earn a fair livelihood for their work. No sweat shops!

Flamboyant Poppies

Flamboyant Poppies will definitely get you in the mood for spring. The orange and blue floral fabrics in this new quilt are fun, fun, fun. Carol used gridded fusible interfacing to make the sewing of random squares go more quickly. She also placed squares of blue jeans in the quilt to represent a crossword puzzle. The kit includes the instructions and the fabrics for the top, borders and binding for $87. If you would like to use the gridded fusible interfacing like Carol, this quilt used 7 panels ($24.50). The pearl cotton by Valdani used to tie the quilt adds another sparkle of orange. Carol used 3 balls of #5 ($4.80 each). She tied the quilt because she used a Fatt Batt to make it fluffy and inviting ($20 for 81" x 96"). Call QIC at 406-587-8216 to order any of these additional items.

The kit for the Homestead Log cabin (finished size without borders is 90" x 108") includes the pattern and fabrics for the top for $192. Borders and binding are not included to allow you greater flexibility in color emphasis. The pattern is also available separately for $12.

Irish Manor
By Jane Quinn

"Many of you know that I find inspiration for quilt designs on floors. This particular one came from a lovely place where we stayed in Ireland called the Irish Manor. I asked the receptionist if she minded if I took a photo of the tile floor in the lobby. She responded that I could do that and asked if I had seen the floor in the pub. I hadn’t. The floor in the pub coordinated with the lobby floor and was a more interesting pattern. The lobby was a pretty basic Ohio Star (in Ireland??) but the pub floor—well, I thought it was pretty special.

The kit includes the pattern and fabrics for the top, borders and binding.

Coverlet

The coverlet fabric was designed by my friends Polly Minick and Laurie Simpson and seemed perfect for making a spread to use as a backdrop for this quilt and others I have. My coverlet will be the red to go with my new red iron bed frame.

The coverlet fabric is 54 inches wide, so I am going to piece my queen size coverlet with one width of the bolt going down the center, and one "half width" down each side.  This way there will not be a seam down the center of the bed, but instead there will be a seam running along the two sides of the bed. The coverlet fabric is $14.50 per yard. The following amounts are recommended for the sizes noted, and the cutting and piecing instructions will be included with your fabric.

North Coast Limited

This quilt features a rare and collectible travel poster from a series of posters by the Northern Pacific Railway in the 1930's.  The NPRR was called the "Yellowstone Park Line."  Gustav Krollmann was a German emigrant who settled in St. Paul, MN and worked as a staff artist for the NPRR.  He is recognized as one of the finest poster artists of his time and his original posters are highly sought after.

Jane had the poster printed on fabric and integrated it into a railroad tracks pattern of her own design.  Her quilt was honored as the Photo Finish in the September 2006 issue of The Quilter Magazine.  This issue also featured QIC's Day in the Country and Outdoor Quilt Show.

The kit includes the pattern, the Giclee poster print on fabric, and the fabrics for the quilt top, border and binding.

Woolylady is an independent, artisan wool dye studio located in the north woods of Wisconsin, specializing in contemporary, hand dyed, felted wool fabric. Their designs bridge the gap from the traditional wool penny rug designs to the “here and now” market of home decor. We have fallen in love with the designs and luscious hand dyed wools, and we think you will, too!
