The Projects....

Bridger Foothills

I’m adding another wonderful quilt, Bridger Foothills, as an option. This quilt offers an alternative that mixes traditional piecing with simple applique. You could even play around with paint sticks on your appliqued leaves. The quilt has a finished size of 51" x 51". A kit is available for $94, which includes the pattern and all fabrics for the top, borders and binding. The pattern alone is available for $10.50.

Chili Peppers Dancing

Another option is Chili Peppers Dancing (aka Midnight Mystique if you choose cool colors instead of warms).  If you’ve been wondering about the skill level of the retreat projects, I would carefully consider before choosing the Chili Peppers Dancing . It is paper pieced and is a challenging intermediate level. I will be making a Montana themed, Brackett Creek version of it as another option for the retreat using our soothing earth tone batiks if you are interested in different colors.

This quilt was designed by Sheryl Mycroft of Kalispell, Montana. A kit, which includes the pattern and all fabrics for the top, borders and binding, is available for $119. The pattern alone is available for $10.50
Finished size 53" x 53" .

The unique black, leaf-shaped buttons that are included in this kit really add an extra flair to the quilt. The quilt is designed by Sheryl Mycroft of Kalispell, Montana. Kits are available in either the cool tones (Mediterranean Morning) or warm tones (Spanish Sunrise). The kit is $79, which includes the pattern, buttons and fabrics for the top and binding. Of course, you could pick your own fabrics and do something very different with the colors. The pattern alone is $10.50.

Why YOU should Retreat with QIC...

by Denise Glaser Malloy

It has come to my attention that many of you have never considered a retreat with Quilting in the Country.  Oh, I know, I can hear what you are thinking:  "I can't be gone an entire weekend, I'd feel too guilty," "I'm just too inexperienced," "I wouldn't know anyone there," "I'm am just too busy!"  I know these excuses well because I had them all myself.  Trust me, the family will get by without you and you can make time in your busy schedule.  And I can just about guarantee that once you experience the fun and camaraderie of a QIC retreat, you will be a regular.  So here's why you should join us:

1.  Fun.  It is just flat out fun to go on retreat.  Imagine this:  a whole weekend to sew as long as you wish.  All day, and all night if you are so inclined.  No cooking, no one to look after but yourself. The biggest decisions you face for the weekend are which fabric to use and when to call it a night.  For one weekend, it's all about you.

2.  Friendship.  Many people go on retreat with one or more friends.  It is a wonderful chance to spend a large amount of time with friends in a relaxed setting that you otherwise might not allow yourself to do.  But some gals are reluctant to go on retreat because they don't know anyone else that will be there.  Never overlook the possibility of making new quilting friends.  I know I don't have to tell you about what great folks quilters are.  By the end of the weekend, you will have new friends, cherished memories, and a beautiful quilt top.  It is an unparalleled opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

3.  Food.  One of the big bonuses, at least to me, of retreat is not having to cook (or clean up).  Let's face it, how often do we not have to worry about the care and feeding of anyone else?

4.  Creativity and inspiration.  Retreats offer the unique opportunity to stretch your creative limits and be in the company of like-minded individuals.  Quilters of all ages and abilities will be there.  Experienced quilters are always happy to share their secrets and tricks, we always learn from one another.  It is also amazing to see our retreat workspace transformed from the plain, white walls when we first arrive to colorful array of quilt blocks as the weekend progresses.  Each quilt is as unique as its maker.  It always amazes me to see how everyone takes the same pattern and interprets so differently and uniquely through color and fabric.  By the end of the weekend, your mind is bubbling with new ideas and inspiration for that next project.

So ladies, mark the date on your calendar, pick out your fabric, and pack up your sewing machine.  Allow yourself the luxury of a weekend to yourself to indulge in your passion of quilting.  You are worth it.  Throw a casserole in the freezer if you must.  But be there.  You won't regret it.
