The Broadway Hotel in Philipsburg, Montana
October 24-26, 2008 Jane discovered this hotel and fell in love. Totally restored in 2003, The Broadway offers you modern comfort and convenience in an historic building that dates from 1890. Each beautifully furnished room has a different theme, like "Las Palomas", "The Discovery Room" (Philipsburg is right next door to Discovery Ski Area), "The Britannia Suite" (Sue, who owns the hotel, was born in Great Britain), "The Andes Suite", "Route 66", and "The Hardrock Room" (Philipsburg has mining history). You will have fun exploring the decor of each room. The food in town was wonderful, and most people who visit Philipsburg make a point of visiting the Sweet Palace Candy Store. Philipsburg has a fascinating mining history that has been well preserved. Retreating to this town would be fun even if you weren't quilting, but of course adding in the treat of a weekend spent sewing with old and new friends makes it even better. We had such a great time last fall! This was by far the most popular place we have ever held a retreat. Imagine wonderful food, comfortable and unique rooms, and an array of delightful shops along the street around the Hotel. Add that to the experience of having the whole Hotel to ourselves for a weekend of quilting and fun with friends and you have a recipe for a perfect retreat . Call to get your name on the list soon because this one will fill up. This will be FUN! Cost for the weekend is $325, which includes your lodging and meals. A $25 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your place, with the balance due one month before the retreat. |

Why YOU should Retreat with QIC...
by Denise Glaser Malloy
|
It has come to my attention that many of you have never considered a retreat with Quilting in the Country. Oh, I know, I can hear what you are thinking: "I can't be gone an entire weekend, I'd feel too guilty," "I'm just too inexperienced," "I wouldn't know anyone there," "I'm am just too busy!" I know these excuses well because I had them all myself. Trust me, the family will get by without you and you can make time in your busy schedule. And I can just about guarantee that once you experience the fun and camaraderie of a QIC retreat, you will be a regular. So here's why you should join us: 1. Fun. It is just flat out fun to go on retreat. Imagine this: a whole weekend to sew as long as you wish. All day, and all night if you are so inclined. No cooking, no one to look after but yourself. The biggest decisions you face for the weekend are which fabric to use and when to call it a night. For one weekend, it's all about you. 2. Friendship. Many people go on retreat with one or more friends. It is a wonderful chance to spend a large amount of time with friends in a relaxed setting that you otherwise might not allow yourself to do. But some gals are reluctant to go on retreat because they don't know anyone else that will be there. Never overlook the possibility of making new quilting friends. I know I don't have to tell you about what great folks quilters are. By the end of the weekend, you will have new friends, cherished memories, and a beautiful quilt top. It is an unparalleled opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. 3. Food. One of the big bonuses, at least to me, of retreat is not having to cook (or clean up). Let's face it, how often do we not have to worry about the care and feeding of anyone else? 4. Creativity and inspiration. Retreats offer the unique opportunity to stretch your creative limits and be in the company of like-minded individuals. Quilters of all ages and abilities will be there. Experienced quilters are always happy to share their secrets and tricks, we always learn from one another. It is also amazing to see our retreat workspace transformed from the plain, white walls when we first arrive to colorful array of quilt blocks as the weekend progresses. Each quilt is as unique as its maker. It always amazes me to see how everyone takes the same pattern and interprets so differently and uniquely through color and fabric. By the end of the weekend, your mind is bubbling with new ideas and inspiration for that next project. So ladies, mark the date on your calendar, pick out your fabric, and pack up your sewing machine. Allow yourself the luxury of a weekend to yourself to indulge in your passion of quilting. You are worth it. Throw a casserole in the freezer if you must. But be there. You won't regret it. |
